Edward Lee Byrd, 78 of Windsor passed away on January 3, 2026 at his residence with his family by his side. Edward was born in Bertie County on October 11, 1947 to Lonnie James Byrd Sr., and Ilethia Byrum Byrd. He later married the former Linda Alexander on June 28, 1980 and worked for Lea Lumber Company for over 30 years, and later for Jim Bo Jumbo Peanuts in Edenton. Edward loved doing woodwork and playing the guitar. He attended Immanuel Baptist Church in Edenton until his health no longer permitted him to.
Edward was predeceased in addition to his parents by a son, Jerry Walter Byrd; brothers: Harry Byrd, Lonnie James Byrd Jr. Aubrey Byrd; sisters: Shirley Vaughan and Carolyn Williams.
Edward is survived by his wife, Linda Alexander Byrd of the home; sisters: Barbara Tadlock of Windsor, Erma Ford of Roanoke Rapids, Jean Ward of Vanceboro; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
A funeral service will be held at the Walker Funeral Home, chapel in Windsor on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at 11:00 AM with John Keeter and Mike Lovelace officiating. Billy Burden, T.J. Baker, Jeremy Weible, and Brian Jennings will be serving as honorary pallbearers, and Elizabeth Parker will be providing music. A private burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service the same location.
