Obituary

Date line: Windsor, NC

Ebenezer "Ebb" Mitchell, 81, of US Highway 13 North, Windsor died February 7, 2025, at ECU Medical Center in Greenville, NC.   Ebb was born July 22, 1943, to the late Johnny William Mitchell and Lucy Leggett Mitchell.  Mr. Mitchell was a loving, caring and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and brother.  He was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church, an avid gardener, someone who enjoyed outdoor chores and described by his family as a dedicated and hard worker.  Pops and Poohpa as he was known by his grandchildren enjoyed spending time with his family and watching NASCAR.  Ebb retired as a LP truck driver from Beasley Oil Company after 35 years of service.  Ebb is probably most remembered within the community for always being at the ballpark since he started coaching in 1980 in the Farm League which was then "Davis Park" (now known as the "Cashie Youth League") retiring in 2016 after 37 years of love and commitment to the youth of our community.  It is believed his impact was in the upper hundreds of baseball players in not only baseball but life with his approach of fundamentals, teamwork, and "playing good ball".  This resulted in him being referred to as "Mr. Ebb" versus just as coach, by a generation of players who later also wanted their sons & daughters to play on "Mr. Ebb's team".

A Funeral service will be held, Thursday, February 13, 2025, at 3:00 PM at Walker Funeral Home, Windsor, NC. The Reverend Bradley Phelps will officiate.  The burial will follow at Edgewood Cemetery in Windsor, NC.
