Doris Magdalene Bowen Gurganus, 85 of US Hwy 64, died Thursday, April 16, 2020 at Roanoke River Nursing and Rehab. Center.

Mrs. Gurganus was born on April 16, 1935 in Martin County to the late Mack Marion and Amanda Council Bowen. She was a homemaker and a member of Everetts Baptist Church. She loved to cook, loved her flowers and home, but mostly loved her family. Mrs. Gurganus was married to her husband David for 63 years. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her brother Eugene Bowen. The family wishes to thank the staff at Roanoke River Nursing and Rehab. for the care and kindness that was shown to Mrs. Gurganus and her family.

Survivors include her husband, David Dearl Gurganus of the home; sons, Ken Gurganus of Williamston and Phillip Gurganus of Winterville; daughter, Kathy Mellete of Williamston; brother, Archie Lee Bowen of Robersonville; grandchildren, Hayli Cowan, Clark Gurganus, Landon Gurganus, David Melette, Gene Mellete, Jr., Kelly Brown, Amanda Gurganus, Jessica Simonitsch, Michael Gurganus and Andrew Gurganus; great grandchildren, eight.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2020 at 3:30 PM at the Everetts Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Crabtree and Rev. Joshua Christmas officiating.

The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00 PM until 3:30 PM prior to the service. The family requests that anyone planning to attend the service to come between 3:00 PM and 3:30 PM.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Everetts Baptist Church, 201 W Main St., Everetts, NC 27825 or the Martin County Humane Society, 1720 US Hwy 17 Williamston, NC 27892.
