Dateline: Waynesville, NC

Donna Barnes Miller, 68, a native of Plymouth, Washington County and a recent resident of Waynesville passed away at her home unexpectedly on January 5, 2025. A funeral service will be held Thursday, January 9, 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Walker Funeral Home Chapel in Windsor with Pastor Chris Hardison officiating. Music will be provided by Ashley Bassett. Burial will follow at Edgewood Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Guy Cayton, Josh Cox, Curtis Kent, Eddie Maxwell, Brandon Barnes, and Frankie Barnes.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the home of her sister, Treasa Norman, 903 East Main Street, Plymouth.

Donna was born on October 15, 1956 to the late Walter Barnes Jr. and Verna Mae Elks Barnes.  She was a graduate of Plymouth High School and later married Ernest Wayne Miller who preceded her in death. Donna was a homemaker who loved cooking and baking along with the mountain life.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by one daughter, Jennifer "Nicole" Todd. Survivors include: one daughter, Samantha Dawn Dawson and fiancé Jamey Way of Washington; one stepdaughter, Melissa Hinnant (Bryan) of Rocky Mount; three sisters: Treasa Norman (Doug) of Plymouth, Deborah Phelps (Billy Ray) of Williamston and Wanda Stokesberry (Kenneth) of Wynonna; one brother, Kenneth "Moose" Barnes (Tommie Gail) of Plymouth. Also surviving are two grandchildren: Savannah and Caleb Hinnant; and several nieces and nephews.
