Donald Edwin Everett (Duck) was born in Robersonville, North Carolina on December 25, 1927. He was the son of the late Fannie Smith and Durward Roscar Everett. In 1945, Don graduated from Robersonville High School where he excelled in many sports. In 1952, he graduated, with a BA degree in Education, from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. While in Chapel Hill, he played the drums in "pep" bands. After graduation, Don taught school for a year and then started a career in the tobacco business which included buying jobs with Liggett and Myers and China American Tobacco companies.

In 1946, he joined the US Army and went to Japan for the Occupation after WWII. After 18 months he received an honorable discharge.

On July 25, 1955, Don married the late Janie Taylor Everett. He is survived by his daughter, Cathy Everett Wilson; his granddaughter, Taylor Wilson; his brother, Durward Roscar Everett, Jr.; his sister-in-law, Lou Taylor Traylor and many nieces and nephews.

Don was an avid golfer and scored 9 hole in ones, two of which were achieved after the age of 80 years old. He won the Club Championship at Roanoke Country Club fifteen times. He always said that the club was his favorite place on earth and in June 2020, he was thrilled to become one of the owners. Don also had the honor to occasionally be the Meredith College substitute golf coach.

A celebration of his life will be held at Roanoke Country Club at 4:30 PM, December 3, 2021. In keeping with his wishes, the celebration is late in the day, so his friends have time for a round of golf. He also requested casual attire be worn to the celebration.
