David "Dean" Ray, 86 of Wakelon Rd., died, Sunday, July 16, 2023 at ECU Bertie Hospital.

Dean was born on May 10, 1937 in Bertie County, to the late Bill Jake and Nana Davis Ray.  He was a sawyer with Bennett Box Co. in Ahoskie for 40 years. Dean was a member of Askewville Assembly of God. He was a devoted husband, father, and farmer, and loved his work. He was preceded in death by brothers, Billy Ray, C.J. Ray, Earl Ray, Jimmy Ray and Clayton Ray.

Survivors include; wife, Audrey White Ray of the home; son, David Neil Ray (Anita Dunlow) of Colerain; daughter, Angela Carol Ray of Canada; sisters, Dot Salinas (Anthony) of Windsor, Betty Bowen (Tommy) of Windsor, Jan Castellow (Ray) of Windsor and Alma White (J.T.) of Windsor; grandchild, Jason Ray (J. D.) of Colerain.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday July 20, 2023 at 11:00 AM  in the Walker Funeral Chapel with Buddy Denton, Randy Pierce and Webb Hoggard officiating. Burial will follow in the White Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 10:00 AM until service time at the funeral home and from the home at other times.
