Date Line: Merry Hill, NC

Carlton Hughes, 89, of Farless Road, died Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family.  He was born in Bertie County, September 4, 1930 to the late Lellie and Marie Dunlow Hughes.  Carlton was a member of Riverside Baptist Church and a lifelong farmer.  Carlton loved his family; loved to cook cracklings and loved his dog very much.

Funeral service will be held Friday, March 20, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Riverside Baptist Church with burial following in the church cemetery.  Rev. Randy Hughes and Rev. Buck Leary will officiate.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Janice Swain Hughes of the home; daughters, Dianne H. Gilleland and her husband Bill of White Lake, NC, Darlene H. Futrell and husband, Winston of Conway, NC; son, Randy Wayne Hughes and his wife, Mitzi of Merry Hill, NC; sister, Rogenia H. Rollert of Longview TX; brother, Leon Hughes of Williamston, NC; 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Thursday March 19 ^th at Walker Funeral Home, Windsor from 7- 8:30 PM and at other times from the home.

NC law has limited gathering to a limit of 50 people at a time in the same place.  You are welcome to come to the visitation but, we ask you to visit and leave. If you feel sick, please stay at home.
