Brenda Kay Burgess, lovingly known as "Katie," peacefully passed away in the early morning hours of July 4, 2025, surrounded by her devoted family. She was 55.

Brenda was born on December 8, 1969, in Bertie County to the late Harvey Burgess Jr. and Mary Ellen Taylor. She was a dedicated and compassionate medical technician who served in several local nursing facilities until her health declined. Despite a long and courageous battle with numerous medical conditions, Brenda faced each day with strength, grace, and unwavering hope. She never complained, choosing instead to live with quiet determination and a deep love for those around her.

She is survived by her stepfather, Willie Taylor of Aulander; her aunts, Linda Askew, and Sally Keeter, both of Ahoskie; her sisters, Susan Hoggard (Steve) of Ahoskie and Tina Hodgson (Michael) of Manteo; her nieces, Sara Ganus (TJ and children) of Laurinburg, NC, Shelby Hoggard of Greenville, Liz Heuneman (Tyler and TJ) of Manteo, and Samantha Hodgson of Manteo; and her nephews, Stephen Hoggard (Chelsea) of Greenville and Owen Hodgson of Manteo, and her beloved 'Tink'. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved Uncle Mike Taylor.

Brenda's family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Tae Joon Lee and the entire medical team at ECU Health for their care and compassion during her journey.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Oak Grove Baptist Church, followed by an intimate memorial service at 2:00 PM, officiated by Pastor Greg Hurdle, also at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Aulander NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Oak Grove Baptist Church, 1437 NC 11, Aulander, NC 27805.
