Bobby Ray
Harrell
Aug 29, 1940 — May 20, 2025
Dateline- Colerain
Bobby Ray Harrell, age 84, a resident of Colerain, NC went to be with his heavenly father on May 20, 2025, after losing his battle with cirrhosis. He had fought the disease courageously for over four years.
Bobby was born on August 29, 1940, to the late James Hubert Harrell and Glena Todd Harrell. On September 22, 1961, he married Linda Jernigan Harrell. They were married for over 63 years. He was a member of Ross Baptist Church. Bobby was a lifelong farmer and had also retired as a poultry grower with Perdue Farms. He worked for Spruill Oil Company prior to going into the poultry business.
Bobby was predeceased in death by his parents and also a brother Jimmy Clayton Harrell.
Bobby was a past member of the American Quarter Horse Association; He appreciated the conformation of a good quarter horse. He raised many quarter horses in his life and was proud to have raised one reining horse that qualified as an entry into the 2000-year Reining Horse Fertility Show in Oklahoma City, OK.
Bobby was a people person. If his health allowed, Bobby could be found at 12 o'clock at Whites Cross store sitting around the lunch table eating one of "Miss Mary's" hot dogs made especially for him. He enjoyed the comradery with his friends. When once asked why he liked to go to the store so much, He replied, "How will I know when to plant beans if I don't go to the store and talk with the boys?" This was a simple daily visit and was a great enjoyment to him. He also had a passion for watching dozer and excavator work and mechanic work. It was not uncommon to see his "little red truck" parked along a path watching land or woods being cleared for farm use. Bobby was a simple man, a good man, and a provider for his family. He had a deep love for his family, especially in later years, his grandchildren. He could always start up a conversation about the accomplishments of one of his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all his family.
Bobby is survived by his wife Linda Jernigan Harrell, a son James Linwood "Jamie" Harrell; a daughter, Susan Lynn Harrell; grandchildren, Bobbi Lynne Dunlow, of Ahoskie, (better known by him as "My Bobbi Lynne") Jordan Lynne Harrell, of Hazelhurst, GA, and Jaxon Ray Harrell, of Colerain, NC. He is also survived by a brother William Eley "Billy" Harrell and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 22, 2025 from 6-8 PM, at Walker Funeral Home of Windsor and other times at the home at 1649 Wakelon Road, Colerain, NC. A graveside funeral service will be held on Friday, May 23, 2025 at 11:00 AM, at Edgewood Cemetery by his Pastor, Josh Morris.
The family would like to thank all the people, doctors, ECU Hospice nurses, transporters, and all other that have helped Bobby to have a prolonged life through this battle with cirrhosis for the last 4- and one-half years. Many thanks to Dr. Fountain and her staff for going the extra mile to make our journey more pleasant. Also, to Three Rivers and their staff and therapy department for their help in his rehabilitation effort.
Flowers are welcome but encouraged to make memorial donations to St. Jude Children's Hospital, Shriners for Children, Samaritans Purse or Samantha Ross Hoggard Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o Ross Baptist Church
