Betty Jernigan Harrell 71, of Askewville-Phelps Street, passed away Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at her home. She was born in Bertie County,  May 15, 1952, first born baby in the new Windsor hospital to the late Willis and Geraldine Pierce Jernigan. Betty taught school at the Bethel Assembly Christian Academy and was a member of Askewville Assembly of God.  She was a member of the crochet club and the senior citizen group of Askewville Assembly.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 6, 2023, at 3:00 PM at Askewville Assembly of God,  Rev. R. O. Denton and Rev. Web Hoggard will officiate.  A burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery.

Survivors include her sons. Russell Harrell, Jr. and wife Kristy of Windsor, David Harrell, and wife Chasity of Edenton; sister, Vickie Jernigan Byrum of Windsor; brother, C. B. Jernigan of Tyner; grandchildren, Christopher Harrell, Blaine Williams, Abigail Harrell Moreland (Joel), Joseph Harrell, Hayle Harrell, J. T. Harmon; great grandchildren, Layton Thomas Moreland and Clayleigh Respess.

The family will receive friends Saturday, August 5th from 6-7:30 PM at Walker Funeral Home and from the home at other times.  Memorial gifts may be made Bertie County Rescue Squad, PO Box 530, Windsor, NC 27983 or to Askewville Assembly Building Fund, 105 Askewville Bryant St., Windsor, NC 27983.
