Bessie Pearce Mitchell, 84, of East Askewville Street, died Saturday August 3, 2019 at her home.  She was born in Bertie County September 26, 1934 to the late Samuel White and Bessie Lee Pearce and predeceased by her husband, Vernon Powell Mitchell; brothers, Lawnes, Harvey, Jelette Clyde, J.T., Sambo and Tritt Pearce.  Bessie was a member of Askewville Baptist Church.  She was the original secretary at Askewville Elementary School then became the manager of CADA where she retired.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday August 6, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Askewville Baptist Church. Rev. Zach Hicks will officiate.  Burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery, Windsor.  The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 6 ^th from 10:00 AM until service time at the church and from the home at other times.

Survivors include her daughter, Marsha M. Ward and husband Brian of Askewville; son, Brent Mitchell and wife Shereen of Elm City; sister, Harriett White; brothers Ed Pearce and wife Naomi, Merritt "Bike" Pearce, all of Chesapeake, VA; sister-in-law, Chris Pearce of Lynchburg, VA; grandchildren, Kelly Ward, Jason Mitchell and Ryan Mitchell and wife Krystina; great grandchild, Zoey Minyard.
