In Loving Memory of Anne Ward Whitehead
Anne Ward Whitehead, a beloved family member, passed away on 22 July, 2026.
Anne will be remembered for her remarkable strength and resilience, as well as for her kindness and generosity. Throughout her life, she faced challenges with courage and grace, while continuing to offer warmth, compassion, and support to those around her. Her generous spirit touched the lives of many, and the love she gave so freely will remain a lasting part of her legacy.
Anne loved the beach, and after receiving a degree in Psychology at Old Dominion, moved to Nags Head, NC where she worked hard and manifested her dream of owning her own business, Kite Kingdom.
She later demonstrated her determination to continue learning and growing by returning to school. She earned a degree in Computer Programming, embracing a new field and another chapter in her life. This achievement reflected the same strength, resilience, and perseverance that defined her throughout her life.
In 2016, while working for Hyster-Yale in Greenville, she met and married the love of her life Joseph G. Whitehead. She moved to Lewiston-Woodville, Joe's hometown, where she thoroughly enjoyed her love of gardening and cooking.
Anne is survived by her husband, Joe, her mother Anne Ward, siblings Oma Underwood and Susan Hagerty, her niece Margaret Gamm and family, and Joe's son Austin Whitehead and family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those who wish to honor Anne's memory may consider making a memorial gift or donation to the Bertie-Hertford Women's Fund, in lieu of flowers.
Anne's life was a testament to strength, compassion, and the enduring power of kindness. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, community, and all those fortunate enough to have known her.
