Alfred Gray Matthews, 74 of Smith Rd., Roper, NC, died Sunday, July 12, 2020 at Roanoke Landing Nursing Home.

Mr. Matthews was born in Martin County on October 30, 1945 to the late Sam and Ellen Edmondson Matthews. He did construction with Weyerhaeuser and a was US Army veteran. He enjoyed fishing. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by sisters Molly Matthews and Nancy Matthews.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Hillside Memorial Gardens in Plymouth with Pastor Jonathan Knox officiating.

Survivors include; sister, Ann Comstock (James) of Roper; Brother, Donald Matthews (Karen) of Wachapreaggue, VA; Niece, Nancy Copper (Joe) of Belhaven, NC; Great Niece, Molly Cooper of Belhaven and children: Abby, Austin, Brandon, Cherrianne and Christopher; Nephews; Donnie Edwards and Gary Matthews.
